Makeover of an old garment`

Written by Moumita Adhikary

Often there is declining urge to wear same clothes over the time. There is no need to discard those garments. It can be made over.

An old cotton ethnic Kurti looks as follows : –

A half-inch golden zari is stitched as a lace at the backside of the kurti that makes it look heavy at the bottom. In the front side of the kurti, vertical katha stitch work is done with threads of different colours. Katha stitch is a Bengal handloom heritage art through ages.

Following is the picture of the katha stitch work having simple pattern that can be made easily by beginners : –

This is my first Katha stitch makeover on any old garment.

For thin people, over small sized kurtis, if Katha stitch is done horizontally in any similar kind of garment, it will give a fuller look when worn.
